PARK HILLS, MO - PGS, LLC is manufacturing a
solid polyethylene part that seats against steel
tubes for extensive lengths. This part will reduce
ware of metal to metal and add weight to their
customer’s part. The added weight is utilized to
sink the tubes to the ocean floor.
PGS has altered focus to custom profiles over the
last 12 months.
John J. Civerolo & Robert A. Stahl say, “How to
Implement Synchronous Flow Manufacturing!
- Develop a common understanding
throughout the organization
- Change the traditional mindset towards the
new philosophy of speed, agility, simplicity &
velocity of product flow
- Focus on major problems (20-80 rule) that
will provide the "biggest bang for the bucks"”
“We have reviewed our success and determined
that if we are comparing apples to apples we will
excel in price and delivery,” Says Thomas Kearns,
President of PGS, LLC.
PGS intends to eliminate non-value-added
activities. As Civerolo & Stahl stress in their
newsletter. Civerolo & Stahl say, “Set stretch goals
& objectives--example: 50% reduction in cycle time,
setups/changeovers, paperwork & WIP (Work In
Progress) inventory.”
Eliminating the low volume production run on a
standard profile assists in PGS’s goal.
An example of a standard profile is tubes of
different sizes and lengths.
“We still produce typical profiles like tubing and
pipes, however (we) are finding more success with
difficult custom profiles that other companies may
not have a desire to produce,” Says Chuck Counts,
Plant/General Manager of PGS, LLC. “Our goal is
to get the difficult profile that nobody else can
produce or is not willing to invest the money and
time into in order to produce it.”
PGS, LLC provides a patented CO-extruded gasket
for the storm water drainage industry. This gasket
is tested to withstand greater than the PSI required
for a silt-tight gasket.
“We have reviewed our success and determined
that if we are comparing apples to apples we will
excel in price and delivery,” Says Kearns.
One standard product that PGS produces is
edging.
“This product line is becoming smaller each year
due to companies that have focused on nothing
other than edging,” Says Counts.
PGS also produces a 2” ABS (acrylonatrile
butadeine styrine) part that separates components
in an electronic instrument, which is considered a
custom profile.
PGS, LLC is a custom plastic profiler located 60
miles south of St. Louis.
