PARK HILLS, MO - PGS, LLC is proto-typing a
Thermoplastic Vulcanizate, TPV, tube that fits a
customer’s specific purpose.  This part dissipates
air evenly in the water filtration process.  Our tube
has passed initial tests as we determine quickest
and most consistent way to manufacture this profile.

“We have always been confident that we would
deliver a useful part for our customer,” Says
Thomas Kearns, President of PGS, LLC.

The immediate benefits of providing this part for our
customer are cost to manufacture and shipping.

This tube is currently manufactured from EPDM
rubber.  The cost to manufacture from a TPV is
substantially less than EPDM rubber due to the
curing necessary when manufacturing from the
rubber.  We are also able to then manage
tolerance levels closer as our part is manufactured
to size with less estimated shrinkage within a
shorter time.  The cost of material is approximately
the same, however during initial testing of the
product we find that a smaller part made from TPV
serves, essentially, the same application.  This
equates to less material used and a lower cost is
offered to PGS’s customer.

“The difficulty in running the part isn’t the
shrinkage.  It is the drag associated with a dense,
textured, flexible material,” says Chuck Counts,
Plant Manager of PGS, LLC.  “We will be proto-
typing a more simple material that has the ability to
be vacuumed during production for a second
application.”
This product, with its successor for the same
customer, falls right into line with PGS’s focus on
custom profiles.

The same material is used in a patented silt-tight
storm-water drainage gasket.  This gasket meets
the ASTM F-477 requirements and exceeds the 2.8
psi silt tight measurement.  The part has passed
tests at 3.5 psi.

“We have been manufacturing out of this TPV for
nearly 8 years with success for multiple customers.
We also manufacture an “H” shaped gasket that is
used to seal industrial vacuum cleaners,” Says
Counts.

The shipping is a second benefit for our customer.
We are located relatively close and can provide
inexpensive, overnight delivery of any product.  If
necessary, PGS can deliver a small amount of
product at no-charge.
